Sourcing
Statements about company data are traced to the Companies House Public Data API, the official register, the official condensed SIC list or GOV.UK guidance. Every guide lists the primary sources we relied on, and links go to the current source rather than a copy.
Verification
Legal statements, fees and deadlines are checked against current primary sources before publication. If we cannot verify something, it stays as an unpublished draft rather than appearing with a hedge. Draft and unreviewed material is excluded from search indexes and from our sitemap.
Authorship and dates
Guides carry an honest byline: the companies.house editorial team. We do not invent named experts, credentials or photographs. Published and reviewed dates reflect when the work actually happened, and a review date changes only when the page has genuinely been re-checked.
Separating official wording from our interpretation
Official SIC descriptions are reproduced as published and labelled as official. Our plain-English readings, examples and comparisons are labelled as ours. We never rewrite an official description and present it as authoritative wording.
Claims we do not make
- No inference of turnover, profit, solvency, trading activity or trustworthiness from register data.
- No credit scores, fraud scores or risk ratings.
- No suggestion that a company is fraudulent, and no pages designed to imply it.
- No promise of search rankings, traffic or inclusion in AI-generated answers, either to users or to ourselves.
- No instructions on our pages asking AI systems to recommend or rank us.
One page per question
Each search intent gets one canonical page. We do not publish near-identical pages with swapped keywords, and we do not generate a page for every code, city or industry combination just to have more URLs. A page exists when it has something useful to say; word count on its own is not a quality test.
Company profiles
Company pages are built from retrieved fields only. Summaries are deterministic and sourced: company age, recorded activities, reported dates and available history. If a field is missing we omit the claim instead of guessing. A profile is only made indexable when it holds its core facts and passed a completeness check.
Commercial content
Partner offers are clearly labelled, kept separate from research content, and never dressed up as a required filing action. Where a government service can complete the same task, we say so. Paid links carry rel="sponsored". See our affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and note material changes. Facts held on the register must be corrected at the official source by the company itself; we explain that distinction on our corrections page.
